What the number means
The figure printed on a tree is projected capacity: what a mature tree of the species we plant should produce in a year. It is not a claim that this oxygen has been produced.
Projected, not produced
A sapling planted today approaches its figure over years, not days. That is why the wording sits next to the number on the mint screen itself rather than three clicks away — a truthful number on page four does not fix a misleading one on page one.
Where the number comes from
Each tier carries a fixed capacity from the table below, set in the contract. Once the species is chosen, that table gets tied to a documented per-tree figure from a peer-reviewed source or a USDA Forest Service / EPA methodology, cited here.
The maturity gap
We will publish the maturity curve for the chosen species — what share of full capacity is reached by year N — so the distance between what has been minted and what is actually growing is stated in years rather than left unsaid.
The six tiers
A rarer tier does not cost more — it carries a larger claimed capacity. The tier is drawn by the contract from the hash of a block that did not exist when the mint was submitted, so neither you nor we can steer it, and it is frozen once drawn.
